TWENTY-FIVE Chinese national nationals were arrested inside a shopping mall along Baclaran in Paranaque City by Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives due to alleged overstaying and working without proper documents.

BI Commissioner Siegfried Mison said they received reports there were foreign nationals that were reportedly engaged in retail trade without proper working permits.

The foreign nationals that were arrested were Wang Minghai, She Wen Wei, Chai Shanshan, Shi Aizhu, Zhan Sisi, Ke Wuyan, Shi Ling Rong, Xu Qui Lin, Chun Li Shi, Chen Rongxing, Lin Jintang, Shi Hong Yao, Chen Ziwei, WuHuati, XiaoChang Cheng, Ke Leifen, Yang Zhi Tuo, Yao Li Qing, Chen Qing Zhen, Reyes Chua, Xu Xiuqi, and Zeng Hualang.

Three of their companions were also brought at the bureau’s office in Manila for passport verification.

Mison said the agency recently have received several complaints against illegal aliens who buy and sell at the Baclaran shopping mall, saying these people were “mocking Philippine laws.”

“The bureau conducted the operation to implement immigration laws of the country which has been violated and disrespected by several illegals,” Mison said.

Mison added that foreign nationals who do not have the permit to do business or has no working permit must secure these permits from the government before they can do retail trade in the Philippines.

Immigration acting intelligence division chief Jose Carlitos Licas said the arrested Chinese businessmen are operating their “tiangge” or free market bazaar at the back of Baclaran Terminal Mall, along Agtarap St., when operatives conducted their operation around 2 p.m. last Tuesday.

Licas noted that upon verification, the BI intelligence established that 16 out of 28 traders may have violated the limitation and conditions of their admission for engaging into gainful occupation without securing the necessary working permit.

The arrested foreign nationals were brought to the bureau’s field command post for temporary holding.

Last December, a team of agents from the Bureau of Customs (BoC), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Manila Police District (MPD) raided the famous 168 Mall along Divisoria in Manila, seizing a still undetermined amount of goods suspected of being smuggled from the People’s Republic of China. (Sunnex)
