Traffic enforcer shot dead in Muntinlupa; Reward for perpatrator offered

A traffic enforcer was shot dead by an unidentified suspect in Tunasan, Muntinlupa on Tuesday.

The Muntinlupa Police identified the victim as Daniel Manalo, 36, a supervisor at the city government’s Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau (MTMB) and a resident of NBP Reservation, Poblacion, Muntinlupa.

The shooting happened at about 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 in front of SM Center Muntinlupa. Manalo was talking on his cell phone when a man came from behind and shot him in the head that caused his immediate death.

A fellow traffic enforcer who witnessed the shooting told the police the suspect immediately fled on foot. Police recovered an empty shell from a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.

According to MTMB chief Danidon Nolasco, Manalo and others were conducting a clearing operation in compliance with a memorandum from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordering local governments to clear roads of illegal obstructions.

Manalo graduated with a degree in criminology at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa. His colleagues described him as a kind person.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi quickly offered a reward of P100,000 to whoever can provide information as to the identity of the suspect with city representative Cong. Ruffy Biazon matching this amount to bring the total reward to P200,000.
