LAS PIÑAS CITY Mayor Imelda Aguilar announced that the city-run Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar College of Las Piñas (DFCAMCLP) will soon have a new and bigger campus with more course offerings.
Mayor Aguilar said the proposed main campus to be constructed in Barangay Pamplona shall house the new College of Engineering, particularly the agricultural and industrial engineering, to give the growing number of city scholars the opportunity to enroll in other courses other than the College of Accountancy.
She said the city will soon start the works in the future site of DFCAMCLP main campus within the 4,833-square-meter property owned by the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PHILFIDA) in Las Piñas City.
“We are fortunate to be allowed the use of the area where we can construct a bigger campus to accommodate more city scholars and offer more courses to those who want to explore other discipline,” Mayor Aguilar said.
The mayor earlier submitted a proposal to the Department of Agriculture (DA) to use part of PHILFIDA’s property for the city college’s campus.
A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed last week between Mayor Aguilar, Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol and PHILFIDA Executive Director Kennedy Costales for the City of Las Piñas to use the property for the expansion of city’s public tertiary education program.
Under the MOA, Las Piñas commits to develop the property for the DFCAMCLP main campus and construct a building for the use of PHILFIDA, which is an agency under the DA.
The city-run DFCAMCLP, which opened in 1998 during the first term of Mayor Vergel A. Aguilar, now has 1,535 enrolees from the colleges of Accountancy, Financial Management, Human Resource Management and Marketing Management. It has produced 192 certified public accountants, some of whom landed in the top 10 board passers.
Las Piñas also offers free-tuition Information Technology (IT) courses at the Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Information Technology and Training Institute for those who want to pursue the field other than the four-year course.
