SLEX, Skyway to only accept RFID payments come 2021; Skyway, SLEX and NAIAx to start this October

Well, you might not have a choice.

This as San Miguel Corporation recently announced that all the tollways it is managing and operating will be shifting to cashless payments by January 2021.

Yes, January 2021.

According to an article by Top Gear Philippines, the measure will be done in two phases — Phase 1: Skyway, NAIAx and SLEX which will take effect on October 2020; Phase 2: at-grade sections of the three mentioned above plus STAR Tollways and TPLEX which will start on January 2021.

Given this, SMC Tollways announced that they are offering FREE INSTALLATION of RFID for all vehicles — both private and public.

In a program called “RFID to Go”, the free installation will require Class 1 vehicles to load a minimum of P200 while Class 2 and 3 vehicles need to load the equivalent of the farthest toll.
