Paranaque Vice Mayor gives back
April 24 was Easter Sunday, the day the Lord has made for us to rejoice and be glad. Jesus is risen!
But Jesus was not the only gift many of us received last Easter Sunday. Gus Tambunting, the Vice Mayor of Parañaque City also celebrated his birthday last Easter Sunday. And in the spirit of giving during the Lent and Easter season, Vice Mayor Gus, who is also known for his “Laging Naglilingkod” seal, chose to gift everybody else and make them happy on his 47th birthday.
The celebration, therefore the giving, started way ahead of the birth date with gifts of sound systems for several schools in Parañaque, well-timed for the end of school year commencement exercises. Gifts of continuing education were also given by the Vice Mayor to pre-school, kinder, elementary and high school top graduates. The young ones received school kits while the older ones got scholarship grants.
With the start of summer Vice Mayor Gus gave away gifts of sight with “Mata Mo Sagot Ko”, free eye check-up, free eyeglasses and free cataract operations for young and old in several barangays. Then, unfortunately, early in April, a devastating fire destroyed hundreds of homes in Barangay Sto. Niño. Fortunately, Vice Gus handed out basic gifts for the fire victims’ basic needs of food, clothes and tents as temporary shelter. Mid-April, tricycle operators and drivers of TODAS/PODAS in the City were all smiles as they received Vice Mayor Gus’ gift of a vulcanizing machine. On Easter Sunday itself, Vice Gus’ actual birthday, unfortunately, another fire broke out in Hontiveros Compound. Once again, gift giving and well wishing from the Vice Mayor who handed out relief goods, comforting hugs, and even his calling cards with a personal note requesting for lawful assistance to the card bearer.
One would think that since the birthday celebration started well before the actual day, the culminating activity would be on the day itself. Not so for the vice mayor with a big G, good and gallant giver of great gifts, Gus. Last April 26, in commemoration of his 47th birthday, the vice mayor gave away 47 wheelchairs to those most in need of them, the disabled and the elderly.
Who knows, it may well be a year-long celebration. But come to think of it, “Laging Naglilingkod” Vice Mayor Gus is intent on a life-long one. Long live the Vice Mayor, belated happy birthday, Sir!
