Paranaque ready for the Pope’s visit; Issues list of closed roads

Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez today expressed his full support as the country prepares for the arrival of Pope Francis on January 15 from Sri Lanka at 5:45 PM at the Villamor Airbase for his apostolic and state visit, the security and readiness of the route of the Papal convoy from the airport will be strictly implemented.

“We have to be very vigilant and ensure the safety as well as the security of our beloved Pope,” Mayor Olivarez said.

The city’s Traffic Management Office led by Teodorico Barandino began putting up billboards and has prepared a rerouting plan in the different strategic areas of the city.

On January 15, two to three hours before the Pope’s arrival, the stretch of Tambo Street will be temporarily closed and around 12 noon, Roxas Boulevard will also be closed. Expect heavy traffic along Dr. A. Santos Avenue both Northbound and Southbound. All vehicles bound to Manila should take Macapagal Avenue while those bound to Sucat and Baclaran should take Marina Road. Vehicles bound to Manila going to Cavite should take Zapote Road via Canaynay or Coastal Road via Kabihasnan.

“I want to assure the public that we will extend all the necessary assistance and help to other government agencies to ensure the orderly and efficient manner of this rerouting scheme,” added Mayor Olivarez.

From the Villamor Airbase, the Papal entourage will pass Andrews Road (Westbound), Domestic Airport Road, Park & Fly Area, Roxas Boulevard (Southbound), Quirino Avenue up to Taft Avenue where the apostolic nunciature, Pope’s Official Residence is located.
