MANILA, Philippines — A 26-year-old freelance interior designer from Muntinlupa City won the grand prize in the Interior Design Competition of the 2010 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) sponsored by Metrobank Foundation.

Maureen Grace De Jesus of JPA Subdivision, Tunasan, Muntinlupa City, bested seven other interior designers to win the award.

Interior designer Heidrun Milan from Tacloban City won a special prize in the contest.

Metrobank Foundation said De Jesus “will join the elite group of outstanding young artists and designers of the Philippines honored by (the foundation) since 1984.”

“I am very happy with the award,” De Jesus told the Manila Bulletin/Tempo.

De Jesus’ winning design highlighted the use of reclaimed wood.

“With a modern tropical design concept, her entry entitled ‘Rise of the Fallen’ highlights the use of reclaimed wood which also serves as the focal point of the design,” according to Metrobank Foundation.

De Jesus along with other winners in different categories will be feted in an awards ceremony on September 17 at the Le Pavillon in Pasay.

Congrtulations, Maureen!:)
