PNU wins top prize in 4th Las Pinas Chorale Festival

Songs of praises were aplenty in the recent Las Pinas Chorale Festival but representatives from the Philippine Normal University Chorale reigned supreme winning this year’s singing competition out of seven participants.

Held at the Santuario de San Ezekiel Moreno in Las Pinas, the other participants were the Alab Vocal Ensemble from Paranaque City, Quorista from Muntinlupa City, Chorus Vocales Philippines from Makati, Tarlac Chamber Choir from Tarlac, The Summerwind Choir from Cavite and the Kawit Singing Ambassadors also from Cavite.

Sponsored by Villar SIPAG, Managing Director and senator Cynthia Villar said the annual event seeks to reconnect people to the good old days when everything was so simple and people could just listen to good music.

The PNU Chorale won the P60,000 top prize with the Chorus Vocales Philippines from Makati winning the P40,000 cash prize for second place.

The Alab Vocal Ensemble won third prize and received P25,000.

The other participants received P10,000 each as consolation prizes.

Criteria for judging included:

Songs Interpretation – 30%
Delivery – 30%
Stage Presence 20%
Costume and Sounds – 10%
Mastery of Piece – 10%

Judges included composer/conducter/director Jerry Dadap, Gregorio Asilo Jr. of Savers Appliance Depot and Jack Uy.

The Las Pinas Chorale Festival is a yearly event held in honor of St. Ezekiel Moreno, who was beatified by Pope Paul VI in 1975 and canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1992.
