MANILA, Philippines – A 47-year-old businessman was shot dead when he resisted a group of men who reportedly tried to arrest him in Parañaque City Wednesday night.

Justo Genie Lim was driving his Mercedes Benz along MJS Avenue when six men in a van blocked his vehicle, city police chief Senior Superintendent Ariel Andrade said yesterday. Lim was with his partner, Midz Nepomuceno.

A source claimed Lim is allegedly a relative of detained pork barrel scam suspect Janet Lim-Napoles.

The men got out of the van and ordered Lim to get out, but the victim sped away. According to reports, one of the men was waving an arrest warrant.

The men gave chase and shot at Lim, hitting him in the head and chest.

Lim was declared dead on arrival at the Parañaque Doctors Hospital.

“We are still investigating the possible motive and identity of the suspects,” Andrade said, adding that Nepomuceno was unhurt.

He said the unidentified attackers could not be lawmen, because there was no coordination from any law enforcement agencies to arrest Lim.

Andrade and Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte said they are still checking Lim’s background to determine if he is related to Napoles. “As of this time, we have no information if he was a relative of Napoles,” they said. – With Cecille Suerte Felipe
