QUEZON CITY, Aug 1 (PIA) — Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel ‘Nene’ Aguilar urged bus operators in the Alabang-Lawton (Manila) route to cooperate with the local government’s effort to manage traffic along Alabang-Zapote Road (A-Z Road).

“Re-orient your drivers on courtesy and discipline,” Aguilar said during a traffic summit on Monday. “Magtulungan tayo para guminhawa naman tayo pare-pareho sa trapik (Let’s help one another so we can be relieved of traffic congestion) Aguilar.”

A week ago, the Las Piñas Mayor declared the 7.5 kilometer A-Z Road as traffic discipline zone strictly enforcing traffic and road ordinances on loading and unloading areas, jaywalking, illegal parking and related violations.

He also advised the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to consult with the local government units on the issuance of franchise to PUVs to minimize volume of vehicles on the road.

Colorum vehicles is also a major contributor to traffic congestion according to Mayor Aguilar.

In order to fight corruption and lack of discipline, he assured protection to tipsters who could report irregular or illegal activities on the road, either traffic enforcers or bus operators engage in colorum activities. (LP-PIO/RJB/MAPA/PIA-NCR)
