QUEZON CITY, December 7 (PIA) — Las Piñas City (LPC) local government turned over cheques worth Php2.5 million to its adopted local government units in Eastern Visayas that were devastated by typhoon Yolanda.

Las Pinas has adopted the municipalities of Julita and Dulag in Leyte under the Adopt-an-LGU (local government unit) scheme that has been agreed earlier by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the mayors of Metro Manila.

Mayor Vergel ‘Nene’ Aguilar turned over to the respective mayors the cheques amounting to Php 1.5-million for Dulag and another in the amount of Php 1 million to Julita as part of its efforts to help the heavily devastated towns in Eastern Visayas. .

Mayors Manuel Que of Dulag and Irvin Dy of Julita received the cheque donations as initial financial assistance for the recovery and rehabilitation of the two municipalities.

“The amount maybe meager considering the devastation to their lives and property but I believe that through our collective efforts our kababayans will easily rise from the rubbles and ready to face life’s challenges again,” Aguilar said in the statement.

In addition, a memorandum was also released to all Las Piñas city officials and department heads to forego the holding of lavish Christmas party this year. City Mayor stated that the budget allocated for the traditional Christmas celebration of city employees shall instead be donated to the typhoon victims in the Visayas region.

Las Pinas was also one of those who immediately responded to the call for volunteers to transport typhoon survivors from Villamor Airbase to their respective relatives or friends in the southern part of the Metro and the neighboring provinces like Laguna and Cavite. (Las Piñas PIO/RJB/MAPA/PIA-NCR)
