Filipina from Paranaque to attend int’l skating contest

A promising athlete from Parañaque will compete in a prestigious international skating tournament in the U.S.A. 
     

15-year old Ice skater Jem Aizen Guhit  from Greenheights Subdivision, Brgy. San Isidro, Parañaque City was invited to participate in the 25th Annual Sky Rink ISI Endorsed Team Competition which has been slated for June 3-5, 2011 at Chelsea Piers, New York.
     

In the official invite, Kenny Moir, Competition Director/Director of Figure Skating of Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers says that although the annual competition has had competitors from all over the world, Jem Aizen will be the first Filipina to compete at Sky Rink.
     

Her medal haul in past competitions include the following: 2 gold, 1 silver in the 2010 ISI 30th Annual Skate World Recreational Team Championship, Marlboro, Mass. USA (July 26-31, 2010); 1 gold, 2 silver at the 2009 ISI Skate Hongkong; 2 gold, 1 silver at the SM Summer Skate 2009; 1 gold at the SM Skate Manila 2008; 3 gold, 1 bronze at the SM Summer Skate 2008; and 1 silver, 1 bronze at the Skate Asia 2007.
     

The City Council enacted City Resolution No. 11-037 (049) Series of 2010, a local legislation recognizing the achievements of Jem Aizen Guhit in the sport of ice skating and awarding her with a plaque of appreciation and a financial incentive of forty thousand pesos.

Early this year, the young Parañaqueña, on the recommendation of Councilor Benjo Bernabe and Youth and Sports Development Office Head, Louie Perez was hailed an Outstanding Citizen of Parañaque during this year’s cityhood celebration rites.
     

“The citizens of Parañaque are doubly proud that the first Filipina ever to be invited in the esteemed Sky Rink competition is a Parañaqueña. She has brought honors to our city and country in the past. Certainly, she will make us proud again with honors in the 25th International Ice Skating Institute Sky Rink Team Competition.
