MANILA, Philippines – Police killed four suspected carjackers in predawn encounter in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday.
Two of the suspects were identified as Arnel Cangque and Ricardo Orbina.
Senior Superintendent Conrado Capa, Muntinlupa City police chief, said the Orbina was a notorious carjacking group leader.
Capa said that the National Capital Region Police Office’s Anti-Carnapping Unit setup an entrapment against the group at the Alabang Town Center, but the group sensed that they were dealing with lawmen.
A brief chase took place in the city as the suspects attempted to escape. The chase ended in an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the policemen along Don Pedro Reyes Avenue in Victoria Homes Village, Barangay Tunasan.
Police found three firearms, four police uniforms and fake license plates from the suspects’ red Toyota Vios.
Investigators also found out that the license plate attached to the Vios was registered to a Toyota Hilux.
Capa said that Orbina’s group is responsible for a string of carjacking cases in Quezon City and other areas in Metro Manila.
