MANILA, Philippines – Two alleged neighborhood toughies were arrested by the Muntinlupa City police on Sunday night for possession of a loaded unlicensed .22 caliber magnum revolver and a hand grenade.

Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, Southern Police District director, identified the suspects as Ely Bestar, 38, a carpenter; and Marvin Cabatingan, construction worker; both residents of Bagong Sibol, Patdu Compound, Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa City.

Estipona said the drunken suspects were arrested at their house after their neighbors asked the police for assistance.

Police said that the suspects’ neighbors complained that Bestar and Cabatingan would pick fights in the barangay whenever they would get drunk.

With the complaint, PO3 Buenaventura dela Cuesta, and PO1 Fernando Datul of the Intelligence Section of the Muntinlupa City Police, went to the suspects’ house at about 6:30 pm and made the arrests.

Estipona said charges of grave threats, alarm and scandal and illegal possession of firearms and explosives are now being readied against the suspects.

Police are also tracing the source of the hand grenade.
