P’que DSWD helps PWDs, kids

The Parañaque City Government under the administration of Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr., in partnership with DSWD-NCR on Monday distributed 60 new wheel chairs to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and extended financial assistance to 75 elementary and high school students from poor families.

The yearly cash assistance is given to children who struggle to stay in school by running errands like bringing neighbors’ garbage to dumping sites for P5 – 10.00; sifting through garbage piles and selling recyclable materials to junk shops; selling rags; serving as “parking attendants” and doing other odd jobs.

Concomitant with the aid are parenting seminars and continuing counseling sessions for parents and beneficiary children respectively.

Program implementation is handled by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (Parañaque DSWD) headed by Mr. Dean Calleja.
