By Jonathan Hicap
The Muntinlupa City government will inspect establishments to check if these are complying with Republic Act 9442 about privileges and incentives for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
This is part of Muntinlupa’s observance of the 37th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week slated on July 17-23.
The Muntinlupa Council for Persons with Disability will conduct the monitoring of establishments on July 16.
In cooperation with Taguig City, Muntinlupa’s PWD community will take part in the “Larong Panglunsod ng mga Batang may ‘K’” which aims to provide avenues of wellness activities to eliminate social barriers.
A simultaneous satellite registration of PWD voters is also set on July 20 at the Muntinlupa City Hall quadrangle to be headed by Commission and Elections-Muntinlupa.
The Muntinlupa City government will cap the celebration with the launch of the “Kalingang Munti Para sa mga Mamamayang may ‘K’ (PWD)” which will offer free basic programs such as medical, dental services, job fairs, birth registration, haircut, manicure and pedicure.
The City Government, through its Social Services Department, said it is making efforts to remove all social, cultural, economic, environmental and attitudinal barriers to benefit PWDs.
Through the City Council, Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered the creation of PWD Affairs Office which aims to serve as a local implementing agency of all ordinances granting rights, privileges and incentives to the group.
The office will formulate and implement programs for the promotion of the rights and privileges of PWDs in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the National Council on Disability Affairs and concerned national and local government agencies.
