Muntinlupa celebrates 101st Anniversary

Muntinlupa, an emerging business-hub in the National Capital Region, celebrates its 101st Founding Anniversary with a day-long series of activities on December 19.

The celebration starts with a Thanksgiving Mass at the City Hall Quadrangle and concludes with a program at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex, Brgy. Tunasan bannering the theme “Pagharap sa Bagong Kabanata, Muntinlupa Tungo sa Ikalawang Siglo.”

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi is set to deliver a message to Muntinlupeños in the said program. “Today marks the dawn of Muntinlupa’s second century and we are in a better position to write a better story for our city, our home. I hope this momentous event will instill nationalism and inspire every Muntinlupa residents to look back and offer one self’s ‘Lakas, Talino, at Buhay’ to the country and Muntinlupa,” Fresnedi says.

The local government also recognizes individuals and organizations who contributed to the development of Muntinlupa over the years. Awardees for this year’s celebration include: National Artist for Architecture Arch. Francisco Mañoza, former Senator and Congressman Rodolfo “Pong” Biazon, Victory Alabang, Inter Continental Development Corporation and Madrigal Properties.

The local exec will also inaugurate a two-storey health center in Laguerta, Brgy. Tunasan which is set to house the city’s HIV Testing Center. The P24.8-m Laguerta Health Center is situated in the newly added community in the area, formerly known as a dumping ground. Today, it is home to a housing village, a child center, a secondary school facility, government offices, and other commercial establishments.

Muntinlupa has been declared a separate town in 1917 through Executive Order 108 issued by Governor General Francis Burton Harrison. Today, Muntinlupa has transformed as one of the leading cities and investment hubs in Metro Manila with nine equally progressive barangays and a population of 504,509.

The city has garnered several awards and citations from various governing bodies, including the Most Business-Friendly City Award for 2001, 2002, 2017, and 2018; Most Child-Friendly City in NCR for 2016 and 2017; Green Banner Award and Outstanding LGU in Nutrition Program Management for 2018; MERALCO Luminaries Award for 2018; Red Orchid Award for 2018; Government Efficiency and Resilience Award (3rd Place) in the Regional Competitiveness Summit and Awards for 2017 and 2018; Union Internationale des Transports Publics Awards for 2017; Top Performing LGU in Manila Bay Clean-up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program (MBCRPP) Annual Exit Conference for 2018; ISO 9001:2008 certificate on Quality Management System for 2015 to 2016; Seal of Good Local Governance for 2015; and Kampyeon ng Wika for 2015, among others.
