Munti–also all systems go for SY 2010-2011

The Muntinlupa City government will implement a plan to ensure the smooth opening of classes.

Mayor Aldrin San Pedro said the city’s Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau (MTMB) and Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) will handle the supervision of traffic and security of students.

“We will make sure that everything will be in place when classes open on June 15,” the mayor said.

He said thousands of students are set to go back to school on June 15, the first day of classes.

“We expect problems in traffic as the number of vehicles will increase,” he said.

In addition, the mayor also said the city government is declogging canals and waterways in time for the onset of the rainy season and start of classes.

The city’s Engineering Department is spearheading the declogging operations based on the order of the mayor.

According to the department, they have already finished cleaning canals and waterways in Poblacion, Tunasan, Bay Area and Putatan.

Mayor San Pedro explained that the operation is needed to take out trash especially plastics that clog canals.

He said clogged waterways cause flooding especially when the rainy season starts.

The mayor said the city is particularly focusing on low lying areas which are prone to floods.

The MTMB will implement a traffic plan near schools as it expects the increase of vehicles especially public utility vehicles when classes open.

On the other hand, the POSO will ensure the safety of students against criminals and maintain overall peace and order.

“We are coordinating with schools and the police in order to have a unified plan for the school opening,” said the mayor.

The Muntinlupa Police and DepEd-Muntinlupa have also discussed the security plan for schools.

Each police community precinct in the city will coordinate with schools near it to prevent crimes such as snatching or gang wars. Police will also be deployed in different schools.
