A policeman active in the campaign against drugs was killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Parañaque City on Friday night.
The victim was identified as Police Officer 3 Alberto Canon, assigned at the Police Community Precinct 7 in Parañaque City.
Canon was on a motorcycle and was on his way to the community precinct when he was ambushed at the West Service Road in Barangay Sun Valley at around 8 p.m.
The policeman was rushed to the Philippine Army General Hospital in Taguig City, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Senior Superintendent Jose Carumba, chief of the Parañaque City Police Station, said Canon’s killing could be related to his job as a policeman.
Carumba said that based on the station’s record, Canon was responsible for the arrest of several drug suspects in the city.
Investigators said before the killing, Canon received a text message telling him to be careful. —ALG, GMA News
