FREE Parking to all Senior Citizens and PWD’s in Muntinlupa? Find out details here.

Good news for senior citizens and PWD’s when you’re in Muntinlupa City!

The Muntinlupa City Council recently passed a bill enjoining all establishments with pay parking in the city to offer free parking to all senior citizens and Persons With Disabilities when in the city.

Ordinance No. 17-050 or the “Ordinance urging all operators and owners of business establishments of pay parking and the like, to exempt the Senior Citizens and Persons With Disability in the payment of parking fees” was created out of the vision “to give priority for the needs of the elderly and in consonance with the said constitutional principle to motivate and encourage the senior citizens to contribute to nation building.”

The bill was also borne out of the request of the Committee on Veterans, Elderly, Retirees and Persons with Disability in a pubic hearing last year.

“The ordinance shall cover all business establishments of pay parking and the like, operating within the jurisdiction of Muntinlupa City which charge parking fees in exchange for parking space/slots/areas at a specific time,” said the bill.

This covers PWD’s and senior citizens driving or on board a private vehicle.

They just need to show their Senior Citizen ID and PWD ID.

All establishments in the city with pay parking spaces are also required to provide spaces or slots to for the senior cits and the PWD’s.

“This ordinance shall be applied to all private vehicles only and not applicable to Public Utility Vehicles such as PUJs, tricycles, buses, taxi and the likes,” cleared the ordinance.

Penalty fees for violators will be as follows:

First Offense – P1,000
Second Offense – P3,000
Third Offense – P5,000 or revocation of Business Permit to Operate

If you hear or experience establishments not abiding by the ordinance, you may file a written complaint with the Senior Citizens Affairs Office (OSCA) and Persons with Disability (PWD) office with the complaint being handled within five days.

We heard somewhere that the free parking will only be for the first three hours though but we’ll update this post as soon as we’re 100% sure.
