Earthquake hits Mindoro; Muntinlupa affected

A magnitude-5.1 quake and a magnitude-5.0 aftershock jolted the Mindoro area in Southern Luzon shortly before midnight Thursday, with state seismologists warning of possible aftershocks.

 

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was felt in several areas in the region, including parts of Metro Manila.

 

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, with the epicenter traced to 15 km southeast of Looc, Occidental Mindoro.

 

Phivolcs said the quake was felt at:

 

– Intensity IV: Looc, Occidental Mindoro

– Intensity III: Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Quezon City; Manila; Muntinlupa City

– Intensity I: Lucban, Quezon

 

An aftershock was felt at 4:03 a.m. Friday, with the epicenter at 6 km southwest of Looc.

 

The aftershock was felt at Intensity III in Quezon City and Manila.

 

More aftershocks were possible, the Phivolcs said.

 

The quake came days after a magnitude-5.2 quake rocked Masbate, injuring at least 10 people and causing damage to some structures.
