DSWD eyes more Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries in Paranaque

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) is working hand in hand with the city government of Parañaque in targeting more potential households to be registered in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to be implemented this year.

Parañaque City Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez said they are closely coordinating with the DSWD-NCR even as a convergence caravan to highlight the importance of the project was held in the city on Thursday.

In his speech, Olivarez commended the DSWD-NCR headed by Regional Director Alicia S. Bonoan, “for their continuing initiatives to promote the interest of ordinary citizens, especially the marginal sector”.

The mayor likewise pointed out that poverty alleviation is one of the centerpiece programs of his administration and that the DSWD-NCR has been a big help in fulfilling his objective of uplifting the lives and livelihood of their constituents.

“We are thankful that DSWD-NCR has always been with us as we strive to make those who belong to the vulnerable sectors especially the poor become more productive members of our society” he said.

Mayor Olivarez also reiterated the city government’s commitment of support to all DSWD programs.

The 4Ps is a poverty reduction program that provides health, nutrition and education services to extremely poor families with children who are 0-14 years of age.

Bonoan for her part said that as the lead agency in social protection, DSWD is placing emphasis in ensuring that the indigent and vulnerable sectors are provided with necessary assistance to help them cope up and give them a chance for a better life.

She also welcomed the full support being given by the city government to their programs as she also provided an update on the implementation of 4Ps in the city.

One of those who attended the program was Zenith Ceres Castino, a beneficiary of 4Ps and a freshman taking up BS Sociology in UP Los Baños.

She thanked the DSWD for giving her a chance to pursue her college education under Expanded Students Grants-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (ESGP-PA) of the agency.

The ESGP-PA provides academic grants for the tertiary education of poor but deserving students belonging to indigent households identified through the Listahanan or the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), giving priority to 4Ps beneficiaries.

There were other beneficiaries who also gave their testimonials during the convergence caravan primarily lauding the DSWD for help extended to them through various means.

The program was also attended by Paranaque 1st District Rep. Eric Olivarez, Rep. Gus Tambunting of 2nd District and Vice Mayor Enrico Golez who also all extended their commitment and support to the initiatives of DSWD-NCR.
