DOLE releases schedule of job fairs in the metro for 2013

Secretary of Labor and Employment Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday urged job seekers wanting to find a job this year to visit any of the Department’s 106 job fairs in Metro Manila, as she announced the initial schedule of the job fairs for the year in the country’s premier region.

“The DOLE-NCR has already firmed up an initial 106 job fairs this year,” Baldoz said, making good her pledge since she assumed office in the middle of 2010 that the DOLE will make an early announcement of the DOLE’s job fairs to ensure that job seekers are sufficiently informed so that they could prepare well in advance if they intend to visit any of the job fairs.

“This is only an initial schedule. There will be many more job fairs, especially in the regions, for our job seekers this 2013,” Baldoz added.

She said that since the DOLE mounted or conducted a total of 1,553 job fairs all over the country, the DOLE targets to at least double this number in 2013, even as she had directed all regional directors of the DOLE to already make their job fair schedules available so these can be announced to the public.

Baldoz noted that of the 106 job fairs, only 12 are for overseas, while the rest are for local employment, proving that “there are plenty of available jobs locally and that job seekers only need to qualify to avail themselves of these employment opportunities.”

“One of the advantages of visiting a DOLE job fair is that a job seeker spends less money and less timer and minimal effort to find a job because DOLE gathers as many employers as possible—whether local or overseas—under one roof. The DOLE also ensures that its government partners bring in to the job fair their services, such as the birth certificate issuance services of the National Statistics Office; the clearance certificate issuance services of the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police; the social security benefits programs of the Social Security System; and the passport issuance services of the Department of Foreign Affairs,” said Baldoz.

She explained that the DOLE-NCR’s job fairs this year are of various types, such as mega job fairs, city and municipal fairs, in-house job fairs, mini-job fairs, and even barangay job fairs and will be held in accessible venues, including city and municipal halls, Public Employment Service Offices, schools, sports gyms, and malls.

The DOLE’s job fairs are always held in coordination with local government units and the country’s PESO network, and are supervised by the Bureau of Local Employment and DOLE regional offices.

Baldoz urged employers who are in need of workers to already signify their intention to join the job fairs by visiting the DOLE’s nearest field offices in Metro Manila as well as the DOLE’s regional offices. She also urged job seekers to prepare themselves for the job fairs.

Aside from announcing through the media the schedules of its job fairs, the DOLE also posts these online the government’s job and skills matching portal, the Phil-JobNet, accessible at www.phil-job.net, and on the websites of the DOLE’s regional offices.

Baldoz said she will make further announcements of the DOLE regional job fairs in the next few days.
