Disaster Council in Paranaque ready for any calamity

WITH Typhoon “Juan” leaving some parts of the country flooded and many houses destroyed, the Parañaque City Government under the leadership of Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr. activated the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) during a recent meeting to make the necessary preparation to respond to emergency situation once the typhoon or any disaster hits the city.

Basis for the said council’s formation can be found in the DILG’s Memorandum Circular 2010 dated August 24, 2010 which directed the Council under the leadership of the mayor to activate all disaster command and auxiliary centers and mobilize members to man the same on a 24 hour basis and activate city-wide warning and alarm systems as well as deploy emergency response rescue and medical teams with evacuation and rescue equipment in staging or assigned deployment areas.

All designated evacuation centers are to be activated and trained personnel will be deployed in food handling and distribution of relief goods, medical and counseling services, law enforcement and conflict management and ensure that all essential supplies needed are available prior to an evacuation and to enforce  pre-emptive or forced evacuation of affected families.

“We are now making all the necessary precautions to make sure that the city is ready to respond to any emergency situation that may occur once the typhoon hits Parañaque,” Mayor Bernabe said.  The mayor also urged the public to make the necessary preparations to protect themselves such as stocking up of flashlights, candles and matches, canned food, clothes, blankets and a battery operated radio to keep up with current events.

The mayor also made sure that rescue operatives such as the Parañaque Elite Rescue Unit (P.E.R.U.) is on alert so that it is ready to take action once the typhoon hits.   Motorboats, rowboats as well as other rescue equipment and transportation have also been prepared just in case the situation calls for it.

If in case of emergency during the typhoon, residents in the city should call Emergency Hotline numbers 826-6287 or 829-0922 for assistance.
