MANILA, Philippines – A robbery attempt on a bank in Muntinlupa City was thwarted Tuesday night after the suspects accidentally set off the bank’s alarm.

Two suspects who broke into the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) branch in Alabang went home empty-handed, city police chief Senior Superintendent Roque Eduardo Vega told The STAR yesterday.

Vega said the robbers failed to open the vault and two automated teller machines.

He said the alarm went off as the suspects tried to break open the ATM machines.

Policemen immediately responded, prompting the suspects to escape.  Investigation showed that the suspects managed to enter the bank by destroying the steel window grill of the establishment.

Police said the suspects also destroyed the closed-circuit television camera installed in the bank.  The bank manager told investigators that the suspects took the personal belongings of their employees.
