“Isang linggo po ‘yan minanmanan and na-confirm nga po na may mga illegal aliens na nagtatrabaho ng construction.”
This was the statement of Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval yesterday after the arrest of 35 illegal Chinese workers in Multinational Village in Parañaque.
The illegal workers were working on the construction of a house inside the exclusive village.
Sandoval also added that the Chinese workers were employed by a Filipino construction company and was reported to them that is why they set up a surveillance team to check on the workers.
“Mga ordinaryong trabaho lang ang gawain ng mga nahuling Chinese katulad ng paglalagay ng floor tiles, pagmamasilya at pagmamason,” said the BI spokesperson.
She said that the workers could not present any documents to show they can work in the country and some even presented themselves as only tourists.
“They could be held liable (the local company). We will be forwarding this matter to DOLE for their immediate action,” she expressed.
She reminded everyone that foreign nationals cannot work in the country without the necessary permits and this includes blue collar jobs that our countrymen can do themselves.
