20th International Robot Olympiad launch in Muntinlupa

Muntinlupa City is set to host this year’s International Robot Olympiad (IRO), an annual gathering of robot learners and mentors from 38 member countries, with the theme “Save the Seas.”

The event will be the first IRO competition to be held in the Philippines.

A preliminaries Summer Sumo Games and Youth Robotics Convention were staged at the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City last June 16 to launch the 20th IRO.

40 participants joined the Prelims Games and experienced the real IRO challenges six months ahead of the real event on four categories which include Creative Category, Mission Challenge, Robot Farming (Humanoid), and Robot in Movie.

On December 15-18, 2018, the 20th IRO will be held at the DLSZ, Muntinlupa City with over 1,200 expected student participants in various categories.

Philippine Robotics Team and Data Science and Technology Corporation president Anthony Gabitan thanked Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi and the City Government of Muntinlupa for hosting the international Olympiad and for his support in raising the flag of the Philippines in the world of robotics.

“I envision that each student in the Philippines will become a productive innovator and inventor that will put Philippines in the center of global progress,” Gabitan said.

Also attending the launching event were IRO Secretary General Young Soo Park, IRO exec Euy Yeoung Lee, Muntinlupa Deputy Administrator RJ Smith (representing Mayor Jaime Fresnedi), DLSZ President Br. Bernard S. Oca FSC, and member of IRO Technical Working Group.

The 20th IRO is hosted by the City Government of Muntinlupa, organized by Data Science and Technology Corporation, in partnership with De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Muntinlupa, Joyful Journey, and Wyeth Nutrition Philippines.
